Speaking of the boozy – hands-down some of the best drinks I’ve had. The menu is set up for shaken and stirred drinks. The shaken are typically a sweeter variety, such as a corpse reviver II, and the stirred are of the boozier variety, such as a Manhattan or old fashioned. Personally, I’m on the stirred menu (in more ways than one), and I would HIGHLY recommend you go outside your comfort zone and try the signature drinks of the variety of your choosing. Basically, there are 2 “common” drinks on the bottom of the page, and at the top, the maestro has concocted an analogue of those that’ll rock your world, so do yourself a favor and pick up several of those.
It is a very intimate and upscale experience. One where, you are the focal point of the establishment. This is a place where you take your significant other for a private night out. One where you can sip fabulous cocktails and have wonderful conversation while jazz plays lightly in the background.
Second, yes, you must make a reservation, but that is only because there are specific instructions in which you must follow in order to get in.
The staff and bar knowledge of the industry, the cocktails, the bar and the city of San Diego provided so much. Plans to go to another place after our reservation, but decided to stay at Room 56 longer due to the great time we were having and feared we wouldn’t be able to top our experience here. Drinks are $20 each and there’s a $40/person minimum
